What exactly is happening with violins and cellos?
.
Quality strings for a velvety sound
During further development, the primary consideration is to improve the sound and ease of playing. To achieve this, we use strings whose sound matches the acoustic character of the given instrument. We choose from proven, durable string types from renowned manufacturers (D'Addario, For-Tune, Jargar, Larsen, Pirastro, Thomastik, Warchal), which hold the tuning well, and the alloy of the braid is resistant to hand moisture - and all this does not increase the costs significantly.
.
Bridge carving for a resonant sound
The bridge shapes the vibration and sound of the strings and transmits it to the body of the instrument. To achieve a focused, projective sound, we fit a French bridge (Aubert) made of high-quality wood onto the resonator, which is carved in such a way that the result is a rich, resonant sound. We also pay attention to the height and curve of the bridge. This way, the strings do not resonate even at higher positions, but it remains easy to play chords.
A precisely fitted and tuned soul
The soul is responsible for the quality of the coupling between the resonator and the back. It must simultaneously transmit the vibrations to the back and still allow it to vibrate freely. To achieve this, we use dense spruce, fitted with optimal tension inside the instrument body. After stringing, we perform precise adjustment of the soul position, which completes the creation of an optimal sound image.
.
Well-functioning tuning keys and comfort
For comfortable, easy playing, it is essential that the neck of the instrument fits snugly in the hand, and that the finger is not poked by the heel of the saddle. It increases the feeling of comfort if the tuning keys have a sufficiently long shaft, a rounded end, the heads of the keys fit in the hand, and they move easily when tuning, but they hold the tuning well. To do this, we carefully make the necessary adjustments on each instrument, and check the end result with a “musician’s eye”.
.
Play-ready bow
The most important accessory of stringed instruments is the bow. We prepare this for playing before handing over, so you can immediately use your new violin or cello. After adjusting the hair length, we wax the bow and test the tension. After that, the bow only needs to be waxed regularly according to use, which you can easily do with a few movements.
